mullan meets prime minister Johnson over Leighton Hospital

Crewe & Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan says he has lobbied Prime Minister Boris Johnson to put the case for a new Leighton Hospital.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recently unveiled its plans to replace 85% of the current site in Crewe.

They hope to be one of eight new-build hospital sites chosen as part of the Government’s multi-billion-pound hospital building programme.

Dr Mullan launched a petition last month to secure Leighton’s place as one of the final new hospital build sites.

The new hospitals will be built by 2030.

Dr Mullan, after his meeting with Mr Johnson, said: “Leighton Hospital was built in the 1970s and it was only ever intended to have a short lifespan as a building.

“It has benefited from large investments and I am pleased that £15 million will be put into A&E this year and next year.

“It was great to discuss my campaign with the Prime Minister and make a case for Leighton Hospital.

“I highlighted the fact that Leighton serves a rapidly growing population with an ageing demographic and was built with materials with a limited life span.

“This building programme is a unique opportunity to make Leighton Hospital fit for the future.

“I would encourage everyone who wants to support Leighton to sign the petition on my website.”

  1. The amount of money that has already been spent in A&E over the years I worked at the hospital is astounding
