Wistaston poet David Vernon is making a splash on the literary scene with his debut poetry collection Sauce, writes Jonathan White.
The book is a “delightfully irreverent and wildly entertaining take on modern life”.
The 54-year-old is being hailed as one of Britain’s freshest and funniest new voices in poetry.
His debut offering “Sauce” spans 236 pages and offers a bold mix of the hilarious, the outrageous, and the unexpectedly profound.
It features reflections on everything from Greggs addiction to laundrette lust, celebrity pets to dietary disasters.

Written over three years and across seven countries, inspiration was drawn from more than 50 towns and cities.
David said: “I wanted to write something that people could enjoy anywhere – in bed, in the bath, or even in custody!
“Poetry doesn’t have to be pretentious or bewildering. I think many people think of poetry as being a bit niche; that it’s for certain people.
“I wanted to bring poetry to the masses so that all adults, regardless of education, age or background can find something entertaining in this book.
“It doesn’t matter if someone is a brain surgeon, a butcher, an astronaut, or a welder, they should have this book on their shelf! Most of the poems are pretty light-hearted.
“I want to raise a smile if not a few titters on every page. I’ve done many of the poems to live audiences and the response has been great so far!”
Published by Martian Red, Sauce is available now from Nantwich Book Shop & Coffee Lounge on High Street in Nantwich, as well as online at Amazon and Waterstones.
It’s available in both Kindle and paperback formats for £9.99.
