More mobile household waste recycling centres are to be introduced in September, including one for the Wrenbury and Audlem area.
Cheshire East Council said that from September 1st, mobile HWRC will be expanded to cover areas where residents are either more than a 20-minute drive of a HWRC site or in an area where incidents of fly-tipping are high (pictured).
Each mobile HWRC will be available for four hours during each visit, instead of the current two.
Exact locations of where the mobile HWRC will operate is still to be finalised, but they will cover Wrenbury/Audlem as well as other areas of the borough.
Cheshire East has also announced a new household waste recycling centre contract which it claims will bring savings, upgrades, and community benefits.
The contract is with FCC Environment and will run from September for seven years.
New features like number plate recognition and a “meet and greet system” will be employed so sites are being maintained for Cheshire East residents only.
Residents will also now be able to donate medical and IT equipment at their local site.
FCC Environment says it will create jobs and apprenticeships under the new contract, donate £10,000 each year to local projects, and help charities with reuse schemes.
Cllr David Jefferay, chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “It’s a big step forward for waste and recycling in Cheshire East and will improve how our sites operate.”
The booking system in place for visiting household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) at weekends and Bank Holidays will remain in place.
FCC Environment operations director Chris Ellis said: “We operate over 100 household waste recycling centres up and down the country so we are a safe pair of hands when it comes to delivering a great service for residents and our council clients alike.
“We are already embedded into Cheshire East with other facilities in the area so we are delighted to have been entrusted with this contract and we look forward to meeting the needs of residents for many years to come.”
