A young angler from Nantwich finished sixth in a ground-breaking UK fishing competition.

Alfie Minshall, aged 15, was selected from thousands of entries across the country to take part with 24 other anglers in “Kontender”.

The competition is Korda’s initiative to discover, support and inspire the next generation of carp anglers.

Brine Leas student Alfie, who is a member of Wybunbury Anglers, competed in the tournament in Norton Disney, Lincolnshire, earlier this week.

Competitors spent 23 hours fishing and competing for the “Kontender” prize.

And young Alfie excelled, finishing sixth out of 25 – as well as enjoying meeting his angling idols and being interviewed on TV!

Alfie’s mum Michelle said: “It was a huge opportunity, and the event was supported by top names in the sport, including Danny Fairbrass, Neil Spooner, and Tom Dove!

“It was filmed and followed closely across Korda’s platforms, so there was a lot of attention on the anglers, both during and after the event.

“He came 6th and he had lots of pics taken with his fishing idols!

Alfie, who is from a family of anglers with his dad Darren and grandad Keith, has his own social media channels on Facebook & Instagram @alfieandthecarp.

He is also seeking sponsorship for some bait and terminal tackle from a local independent tackle shop.
