Nantwich runner Sarah Dufour-Jackson to run for England at Home Nations

A Nantwich runner is to compete for her country this weekend at the Home Nations Athletics Championships.

Sarah Dufour-Jackson will be running in the Senior Women 5k race at the championships in Cardiff on Saturday (August 30).

Sarah is a member of the Vale Royal Athletics Club and is a former Malbank School and Sixth Form College student.

She currently works at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust where colleagues will be cheering her on as she represents England this weekend.

England Athletics announced the teams earlier this month, with runners in both Men’s and Women’s Under 20 and Senior categories.

This event is renowned for being one of the top 5k races in the country and in the past England teams have had great success. The action takes place at Bute Park on August 30.

Sarah said: “I’m really looking forward to representing England, it’s not something I thought would have been possible even a year ago!

“I ran 15:44 over 5k earlier this year, which was faster than the standard needed for the team, so I knew I had a chance – however there are a lot of speedy people to contend with.

“Preparation wise, I have been continuing to train as usual in the weeks leading up to Cardiff.

“On race week I will have some easier days, targeting one easier session earlier in the week to keep my legs turning over.

“The rest is all about recovering in between, making sure I’m well fuelled, and in a good mindset going into it!”

Vicky Griffiths, England Athletics team operations manager, said: “The Home Nations 5k is a fantastic representative opportunity for athletes.

“We have a mix of experience and first-time selection in the team and are hopeful of the success we have achieved in previous years.

“Congratulations to all athletes selected and their coaches on their selection and good luck for the race!”
