A Nantwich man has been arrested and charged after the theft of a Nantwich Foodbank charity box from the town’s Sainsbury’s store.

Police say the theft happened on August 26th.

It was suspected the theft was linked to two other incidents of shoplifting at the store on Middlewich Road.

Nantwich Police said: “Thanks to the efforts of Sainsbury’s staff, their high quality CCTV system and a break through in the use of facial recognition, officers were able to identify a 30-year-old suspect.”

A man was arrested at his home address at 9.45am today and later interviewed.

He has been charged with three offences of theft totalling an estimated £457.
