A primary school playground in Nantwich has been transformed after pupils teamed up with a company to deliver a new outdoor space.
Thermapply, through its play marking solution Project Playgrounds, worked with youngsters at St Oswald’s Primary School in Worleston.
And they have delivered a pupil-inspired play space that brings together physical activity, classic playground games and outdoor learning.
When Headteacher Louise McDonough saw that children had little to keep them enthused at break times, she invited Thermapply’s team to visit the school to explore a playground refresh.
Pupils were central to the design with exercise and fitness features emerging as priority alongside traditional and educational game markings.
The playground now includes:
Fitness and movement sequences featuring star jumps, lunges, hops, straddles and dedicated activity stations
A full perimeter exercise track with Start/Finish points and a high-energy sprinting lane
Classic game markings, including hopscotch and Snakes & Ladders
A beanbag dart board activity zone
A 1–100 number sequencing grid to reinforce numeracy outdoors
Headteacher Louise said: “We are absolutely delighted with the playground enhancement.
“The children were using the markings the very same day, and it has made an incredible difference at playtime.
“We also have full confidence knowing this investment comes with a guarantee, ensuring lasting value for many years to come.”
Jonathan Hamp, Managing Director of Thermapply, added, “We know the most powerful playgrounds are shaped by the people who use them every day, children.
“Seeing pupils actively engaged within hours of installation proves the impact of designing with them, not just for them.
“St Oswald’s is a perfect example of a space that now supports wellbeing, activity, creativity and learning, and we are proud to have delivered it through our Project Playgrounds solution.”
Project Playgrounds turns ordinary school outdoor areas into durable spaces for active play and learning.
They use non-toxic, anti-slip thermoplastic materials and markings are built to withstand years of heavy use.
Each playground is shaped through free, pupil-led consultation and custom design.
