The Game’s Afoot written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Sharon Dutton is a classic whodunit, which will have you guessing until the very end.
With lots of twists and turns, the play has a plot which Agatha Christie would be proud of.
We meet the actors from an American theatre company who produce a popular Sherlock Holmes play, until one night the lead actor is shot on stage by a member of the audience.
The company retreat to a country house, but when one of the guests is stabbed in the back, they realise there is a killer among them.
I enjoyed watching this production. It was good fun and made me laugh throughout.
There are so many twists and turns in this, just when you think you’ve solved it, something else happens which makes you question everything again.
Megan Goode was fantastic as the smart and witty Daria Chase, the theatre critic and columnist who seems to know everyone’s secrets.
Gail Cornell brought the humour as the eccentric Inspector Goring, but I particularly enjoyed the interactions between Gillette, played by David Rogerson and Felix played by Trevor Hough.
The set reflected the elegant country mansion and style of the 1930’s, completed of course, with a secret room.
I think that the sound and lighting was well designed and used effectively within this production, adding to atmosphere and mystery.
The Game’s Afoot is running at the Players Theatre until 20 December.
