Batherton Lane housing Nightingale Land plans

A housing developer has submitted revised plans to demolish a bungalow in Stapeley, Nantwich and build 75 new homes on fields behind it.

They want to demolish number 6 Broad Lane and build an access road through to a new development of up to 75 homes with parking, open space, landscaping, drainage and associated works.

And in revised plans submitted in December, they have tried to address initial concerns over traffic.

The new plans show they would install speed cushions either side of the new access road, and an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing on the Nantwich side of the access road, as well as widened footpaths.

The original outline planning application was submitted to Cheshire East Council by Nightingale Land in August and a public consultation held in October.

It sparked a number of objections from residents living in the area, citing concerns over increased traffic, more pressure on school places, impact on the environment and loss of green space.

Nantwich Town Council also objected for a number of reasons.

They said in 2016 an appeal to build an additional 60 houses to form an extension to the Halfpenny Close development was dismissed, primarily because the A529 Audlem Road/Broad Lane was seen as being unsuitable to be the sole exit for any additional housing. No improvements to this road have taken place since.

They also cited existing primary school on Broad Lane as already near capacity, that Broad Lane is already a very busy road during peak hours and is a bus route to local schools and into the town and used regularly by agricultural vehicles.

They said residents are very concerned about the impact on road safety for cyclists and pedestrians, and that there is already a large increase in vehicle traffic from the existing development taking place off Peter Destapleigh Way.

The application is expected to go before Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning committee on January 28th.

  1. Sadly, the cancer of state backed over development by large businesses has taken over our town and has done for years now.

I’ll be selling up and moving away soon. Never thought it would come to that but the place just isn’t what it used to be. Too many cars, too many people, not enough services & resources spread too thin.

The whole place looks like a dump, litter everywhere, no maintenance.

Idiots running local politics and corrupt politicians running the country, a recipe for disaster…

  2. The footpath up to Broad Lane school is totally unsafe. no where near wide enough. Its also not very safe walking up to Brine Leas. Although that path is wider it gets clogged with parked cars and not safe to cross.

  3. Will only work if they build bungalows and first time buyer affordable homes, forget these big 4 beds as they are not currently selling anyway bungalows will free up larger family homes with big gardens, a newbuild 4 beds have the smallest of gardens no wonder kids are feral . the design and layout on this application is dire not to modern standards at all, builders have been using that dated faux Georgian box type home for 25 years, look further south for cutting edge designs far better to live in, and blend into the countryside this shambles will not
