traffic queues in snow and ice

Many bin collections across Crewe and Nantwich will be impacted today by weather conditions, Cheshire East Council has warned.

In their latest statement, Cheshire East said: “Due to the adverse weather conditions across Cheshire East, so far today it has not been safe or possible for our crews to carry out bin collections.

“We are waiting for the conditions to improve and will update residents with more information as soon as possible.

“The adverse weather conditions are forecast to last for the week commencing January 5th and may impact other collections scheduled for this week.

“Where safe to do so, please put your bins out on your scheduled collection day and we’ll continue to keep residents updated. Thank you for your patience.”

The council has also confirmed all its libraries are closed today.

And council-run Family Hubs are also closed, including Nantwich Children’s Centre, Coppenhall Family Hub, Oak Tree Family Hub and groups at Crewe Lifestyle Family Hub will not be going ahead.

  1. Our bin should have been collected on Monday but has not been emptied yet.

  2. Even though the snow continued into Tuesday, Cheshire East Council maintained our normal bin collection day, even though it was a couple of hours later than usual. So hats off to them for that. Having said that, we are in winter, so we should expect severe weather conditions and be prepared for gritting the roads and not say, it’s the wrong kind of salt for weather conditions. I wonder if Switzerland has the same problems as we experience here in the UK when severe weather conditions hit – does everything shut down. Just saying.

  3. They will probably then say the bin is over filled as the lid isn’t all the way down and refuse to collect it!

  4. Christopher Pratt says:

If your bin lid is frozen down crews will be unable to empty your bin. My bin lid was frozen down and I released it with warm water. I have have lodged something under the front edge of the bin lid to keep it open and prevent it from freezing down. Perhaps Council guidance should make people aware of this problem.
