A remembrance service will take place in Nantwich this weekend to honour the memory of airman Arthur Leslie Brown.
Residents are invited to join the Royal British Legion and Deputy Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Kim Jamson at the Airman’s Grave, by the river off Shrewbridge Road.
There will be a small parade first taking place from Brookfield Hall car park leading to the grave.
The service will be led by Rev Dr Mark Hart to perpetuate the memory of American World War Two pilot Leslie Brown.
The airman died on January 14th 1944 as he struggled to bring his stricken Thunderbolt plane down away from Nantwich and so avoided causing many deaths.
1st Lieutenant Arthur L. Brown was a 23-year-old New York man and a member of the United States Army Air Force.
He had been on a training flight in the area when the accident happened and he crashed his aircraft into the banks of the River Weaver.
The service will take place this Sunday 11th January at 1pm.
Nantwich Town Council has recently installed new signs at the Airman’s Grave ahead of the commemorative service this weekend.
The new signs provide details about the airman’s story and include a QR code linking to additional information for those who wish to find out more.
