Creative writers are busy penning their short stories, poems and prose for a special event at Nantwich Library later this month.
The Creative Writing Group, which meets at the library monthly, will stage their first “come and listen” showcase of their work at 5pm on Tuesday February 10th.
Group leader Craig Bennett said: “The group has been meeting at Nantwich Library for well over 10 years, drawing members from Nantwich and the wider area.
“They are true enthusiasts, loving to create and share their passion for the written word. The event will be an opportunity to share their talent, raise awareness and attract new members.”
The group has a core membership of eight enthusiasts and would love to welcome more.
Craig, from Nantwich, added: “Originally founded by library manager Tom Appleby, the group has had several leaders over the years, both from the library staff and from outside.
“It would not exist without the support of, and encouragement of, the library management and staff.
“Each month, we issue a prompt, to encourage writing around a particular theme, but each member is free to produce and present whatever work they feel inspired to produce.
“We have writers who produce prose and poetry, and over the years the group members have built up a body of work comprising short stories, poems, descriptive pieces, characterisations and pieces that form part of full novels.
“For our showcase, we have as a group chosen some of our favourite pieces.
“Expect to hear some poetry, some of it locally themed, short stories with unexpected twists and turns, characters that make you want to know more about their lives and plots that will have you wondering what happens next.”
Visitors to the showcase will hear authors read aloud their work with the aim to “entertain and inspire” while raising awareness of the library as a place to meet and enjoy the written word.
Craig added: “It also allows us to present our work to a wider audience, foster interest in creative writing and hopefully encourage more people to come and join in our monthly groups or consider developing their own creative writing skills.”
