Time is running out for Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club who need to fundraise £15,000 to resurface its two courts.
The future of the club, founded in 1977 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, hangs in the balance.
It successfully secured a £15,000 grant from Sport England to resurface its two courts and provide a safe, modern playing surface for members and the wider community.
But the funding must be matched by April 6th or the £15,000 grant will be lost.
The club has launched a Crowdfunder campaign and is appealing to anyone who can help with any size donation possible.
Local businesses are also invited to sponsor a courtside billboard to boost the funds further.
The club now has around 100 members playing on its two floodlit courts behind Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre on Church Lane.
Club captain and coach George Raiswell said: “Our club has always been inclusive and welcoming, offering opportunities for all ages and abilities – from beginners to competitive team players.
“We’ve secured £15,000 from Sport England, which is fantastic news.
“But we now need to match it by 6th April to make this project a reality. With the community’s help, we can transform these courts into a modern facility everyone can enjoy.
“Tennis builds fitness, confidence and mental wellbeing — it’s a sport for life.
“This isn’t just about resurfacing courts; it’s about investing in a community space Wistaston can be proud of for years to come. Every donation truly makes a difference.
“Thank you for supporting the club and helping us create the tennis facilities our community deserves.”
The club also plans to introduce a new pay-and-play scheme, opening the courts up to non-members and widening access to the sport locally.
The campaign has received backing from Crewe and Nantwich MP Connor Naismith, who has pledged to raise awareness and explore further funding avenues ahead of the fast-approaching deadline.
