Nantwich Lake car park has undergone an upgrade following action by two Nantwich Town councillors.
The improvement works, carried out by Cheshire East Council Highways team, follow lobbying by Nantwich South councillors Geoff Smith and John Priest.
There have been repairs to worn and damaged sections of the path around the lakeside car park, improving safety and accessibility for residents.
Cllrs Smith and Priest raised the condition of the car park surface with highways officers and asked whether funding was available.
They highlighted the existence of available funding from local Section 106 (S106) agreements which remained unused for some years.
Cllr Smith visited the site while the works were carried out.
He said: “We are delighted with the cooperation and enthusiasm from the highways team to finish this project.
“It contributes to the enjoyment of this outstanding environmental area in our community.”
Cllr Priest added: “We are committed to promoting a better appreciation and promotion of our local facilities enhancing Nantwich as a great place to live and look forward to the provision of further enhancement of our parks and green spaces.”
The completed patching and re-lining should prolong the lifespan of the car park.

what did this work cost? because I visited it today and it is shoddy to be polite!!
It will not last the first winter even the pothole has been left in the centre like some feature and the entrance and exit is the same,
no thought for how two cars can pass, in or out at the same time given the road speed and bend there, epic fail!!
… JD… Outsourcing this kind of trivial work is exactly why there’s never enough money to do anything.
When I was young the town had a direct labour force that had the skills to tackle the majority of maintenance and upgrade tasks around the area. No quoting, no “vertical market” of service providers. Stuff got done, jobs were sustained. Not perfect by any means but compared to today its wasn’t a bad system at all.
Once the curse of privatisation became entrenched the cost of everything went through the roof. Dodgy deals were done, and some people made a ton of cash out of it I’m sure, but all the while, less and less work got done and the costs spiralled.
The real answer to local services is to reinstate local direct labour under the control of the council.
I might be a dinosaur but that doesn’t make me wrong.
If you think more privatisation is the answer then you are a loony… the council employs almost zero staff involved in direct work related to highways these day so its a fantasy to think there’s some magic solution built around getting rid of non existent staff and engaging yet more contract staff…
I wonder when they will start to chage for this car park ?
So they manage to throw a bit of tarmac down and paint a few lines. Meanwhile the actual road network in the area is 3rd world level.
This is not news.
The council needs to be careful to retain enough money from its budget to replace the dishwashers installed to wash up staff teacups at its HQ in Crewe in case that becomes necessary.
Apparently £22,000 will cover it.
Or maybe not…
I totally agree with ‘David’!
I can assure the buffoons responsible for such frivolous expenditure of Public Funds on their cute little vanity project that the lakeside car park was perfectly functional beforehand and very few folks had had any problem whatsoever parking there without the costly purely cosmetic re-lining!
Would said Councillors be so keen to fritter away money on such wafer thin priority ornamental stuff if it was coming from their own Bank A/C?…I think NOT!!!!
Don’t show your ignorance – before commenting update your knowledge; this money is from a different purse!!!
Think the roads are more important, the council will probably try and implement a charge moving forwards, and to be honest the surface was fine as it was, still nice to know my money has been well spent
Totally agree with u david 👏
Agree with Dave you have to dodge potholes to get to the kake
Rubbish, CE should do both and the Lake is a wonderful facility for all generations .The issue for CE is continuous maintenance rather than waiting for an area to become dangerous.CE is badly led, managed and more work should be outsourced for example to tarmac who have experience and expertise in road maintenance.
First of all, Thank you Cllr Priest and Cllr Smith for the time and effort in having the work carried out.
I know a lot of people will feel uneasy and unhappy about the work being done considering the state of the roads.
Having said that councils do have separate allowances put aside I’m sure for this type of work to be carried out.
I am in support that I can now visit the lake knowing I will feel safe and especially knowing is got better Disabled marking Bays to park.
It’s a beautifully area of Nantwich with so much wildlife in the area,
Some people may disagree with my say so on the matter but I’m not a iPad phone or Television potato nerd sat on my devices all day.
The older generations like to get out whenever weather permitting to walk and visit places like this,
At times it’s the only comfort we have that’s free.
Thank you so much Councillors,
Smith and priest.
Seriously what a waste of money , sort out snowhill carpark 1at , you’re an absolute joke
Enhance Nantwich! Try getting CE Highways to do the roads which are in shocking condition, then try cleaning all the greenery out of the gutters and grids which has not been done in years. Do these two clowncellors go round Nantwich with their eyes shut? My god get your priorities sorted.
Personally I think the roads that are full of craters should have taken priority. F##kin joke and a complete waste of money. No wonder Cheshire East are broke!
