Dear Editor
I would like to offer some well-deserved praise to Cheshire East Council for the completion of the new toucan crossing at the Peacock roundabout — a notoriously busy junction with fast-moving traffic.
While I previously expressed some frustration about the length of time it took to install the crossing, I have to say I am very impressed with the finished result.
I regularly walk between Crewe and Nantwich along Crewe Road, and the new toucan crossing at the roundabout has made a real difference.
What was once a difficult and sometimes intimidating place to cross is now far safer for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The wider improvements at the roundabout are also very welcome.
As well as installing the toucan crossing, the project has delivered upgrades to street lighting, improvements to the cycleway, a reduction in the speed limit and resurfacing works — all of which contribute to a safer environment for everyone using the junction.
It is encouraging to see practical measures like this being delivered to improve road safety on such a busy route.
For those of us who walk or cycle between Crewe and Nantwich, the benefits are clear.
So while it may have taken some time to complete, the end result deserves recognition.
I would like to congratulate Cheshire East Council on a job well done.
Regards,

just watch that cars are actually stopped before crossing, as on the Cheerbrook one there is always one car one side driving through the red light at least once a week, I use it daily so I never ride my bike over but walk, too many idiots out there
I agree. Good use of CEC funds.
Its much safer to cross this road now. I got knocked off my bike on this roundabout a couple of years back by someone who didnt have an excuse.
This will make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross as the traffic will be slower in the new 30 limits either side.
