Councillors have voted to fight plans for 75 homes in Nantwich at appeal on highways grounds after hearing there’s “a ticking time bomb” caused by unplanned, piecemeal developments.

Nightingale Land wants to build the homes on fields off Broad Lane in Stapeley and to bulldoze a bungalow for access.

A Nantwich housing application has been deferred for a second time for a traffic assessment – with a parish councillor warning “until there’s a fatality, nobody’s going to take us seriously”.

The proposal from Nightingale Land for up to 75 homes off Broad Lane was deferred earlier this month by the strategic planning board (SPB) for a traffic assessment to identify any cumulative impact.

Hundreds of motorists were caught up in long tailbacks on the A51 near Nantwich today after highways closed it to empty gullies.

Drivers reported tailbacks of mor than three miles back past Barbridge with the closure in place on the A51 between Reaseheath roundabout and Bluestone Lights.

Villagers fighting plans to build a 127-home estate in Audlem say the scheme is too big, in the wrong place and will make the existing traffic chaos even worse.

Muller Property Group has applied for outline permission for the homes, which includes 38 affordable, on 9.3 hectares of undeveloped farm and grazing land on the south-western edge of the village.

Cheshire East Council bosses have hit out at “false information” about 15-minute cities and stressed the council has no plans to introduce any rules to restrict freedom of movement.

The idea behind a 15-minute city is that residents have access to everything they need – work, shops, medical services, parks, leisure facilities – all within a 15-minute walk or short cycling distance from where they live.
