Female bellringers from St Mary’s Church in Nantwich marked International Women’s Day with a special ringing of a Quarter Peal of Plain Bob Doubles.
The ringing took place at 4.30pm on Sunday (March 8th) and reflected this year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain’.
The theme aimed to highlight the importance of investing in women to benefit society as a whole.
The all-female group of ringers featured five ringers who live locally.
Fanny Weiss, a ringer since 2018, and originally from France, said International Women’s Day remains vital while women’s and girls’ rights continue to be violated around the world, adding that it was special to honour them today through ringing.
Bellringer Claire said: “I was excited and incredibly nervous for my first time ringing the treble and only my second quarter peal attempt.
“I knew immediately that the incredible teamwork of the ladies would get us through.
“Such an inspirational band of ladies and we all looked after each other. It was an honour.”
Nantwich Town Cllr Anna Burton praised the “very talented group of women bellringers,” describing St Mary’s as a community that supports and invests in women.
Anyone interested in learning to ring bells is warmly encouraged to get in touch, with practices held on Thursday evenings at 7pm.
