Bluebells - walks at Combermere Abbey

The annual Bluebell Walk at Combermere Estate near Nantwich will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday May 3rd.

Set within one of the region’s most iconic historic landscapes, the event offers a chance to explore the surroundings of the 900-year-old estate.

The walk begins at the centre of the estate near the historic walled gardens and follows a two-mile route through ancient parkland.

Visitors can see the “Big Wood” where carpets of vibrant bluebells create a magical woodland scene.

Along the route, walkers will pass the Queen’s Green Canopy planting, established in 2022 in honour of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

There will be refreshments available including freshly brewed coffee, tea, homemade cakes, and wood-fired pizzas.

There will also be a plant sale and stall will offer a variety of plants for gardening enthusiasts.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads to protect the wildlife habitat including ground nesting birds.

Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and it is not suitable for buggies, wheelchairs or pushchairs. There are toilets and free parking on site.

It is open from 11am – 3pm, visitors are urged to book ahead. Admission costs for the Bluebell Walk are Adults £8.50 and Children £4.50. Free for babies.

Combermere Abbey is supporting the Artemis Charity of the Year, Magic Breakfast, by donating proceeds from the Bluebell Walk.

Combermere Estate owner Sarah Callander Beckett said: “Bluebells are one of nature’s greatest gifts, returning each year to sprinkle their magic over us.

“I am always thrilled to share this with visitors each year, who also get the wonderful benefit of fresh air, green space and a few hours immersed in nature.”
