Three Wrens Gin distillery

Council chiefs have celebrated the success of an award‑winning distillery near Nantwich as part of its new ‘Made in Cheshire East’ initiative.

The campaign aims to shine a spotlight on innovative, sustainable and growing businesses across the borough.

And councillors who visited the Three Wrens Gin, a family‑run distillery at Combermere, have recognised its international success and strong commitment to responsible, low‑impact production.

The business was founded by owner and master distiller Nick Wadeson in 2019.

He built a global reputation for distinctive, small‑batch spirits made using traditional copper‑pot distilling alongside modern techniques.

The business has won multiple international gold medals, including the prestigious Golden Fork Award from the Guild of Fine Food.

Cllr Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “Three Wrens is a great example of the creativity and ambition that Made in Cheshire East is designed to celebrate.

“From a rural Cheshire base, they are producing world‑class spirits while creating jobs, attracting visitors and contributing positively to the local economy.”

Its sustainable initiatives include a refill scheme to reduce glass waste, on‑site growing of herbs and botanicals, a zero‑waste approach to cocktails, and reduced transport emissions through bulk supply to trade partners.

Cllr Michael Gorman, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “What really stands out about Three Wrens is how sustainability is woven into every part of their business, not treated as an afterthought.

“That combination of environmental responsibility, craftsmanship and innovation is exactly what we want to champion through Made in Cheshire East, and it shows how local businesses can lead the way to a greener future.”

Nick Wadeson said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be part of Cheshire East Council’s ‘Made in Cheshire East’ initiative.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Three Wrens Gin and we have always been incredibly proud to represent Cheshire East as our home since we launched in 2019.

“The council has been a great source of support throughout our journey, and we’re excited to continue growing with their backing.”
