Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire Service are investigating the cause of a major blaze at a chicken farm near Nantwich.

The fire broke out at the farm on Checkley Lane in Wrinehill at around 6.30am on Friday (May 29th) and fire crews were on scene for more than 24 hours.

At its height, more than 10 fire appliances attended. It’s believed no poultry birds died in the incident as the barns were empty.

Now Cheshire Fire has confirmed a joint investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze.

Aaron Collis, Area Manager at Cheshire Fire and Rescue, said: “At the height of the incident, ten fire engines from across Cheshire, with support from Staffordshire and Shropshire, alongside a range of specialist appliances, were in attendance.

“Due to the significant smoke plume, a major incident was initially declared.

“We are continuing to work with the owners of the site to ensure operations can continue safely.

“We would like to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation while the smoke remained visible in the area.

“A joint investigation with Cheshire Constabulary into the cause of the fire will be commenced in due course.”

In their last update at 8.30am yesterday (May 30th), they added: “Two fire engines remain at the scene damping down and monitoring the area for signs of hot spots.

“Crews will continue to monitor until firefighting operations cease and an investigation into the fire can commence.”
