Seahorse Swimming Club swimmers - June 2026 (1)

Swimmers from Seahorse Swimming Club in South Cheshire scooped 11 medals at a friendly gala held at Sale Leisure Centre in Manchester.

The club competed against swimmers from Sailfin Swimming Club, in Sale, and Aquadis Swimming Club from Ellesmere Port, as more than 30 competitors took part in the event.

The gala served as preparation for the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy Galas scheduled for later this year.

Seahorse Swimming Club secretary Gareth Roberts praised the efforts of the Crewe and Nantwich swimmers following their first gala of 2026.

He said: “The Seahorse swimmers were looking forward to their first gala of 2026 and they showed lots of enthusiasm with lots of effort and a determination to win several races.

“They came away with a bagful of medals, 11 in total, with five gold, four silver and two bronze.”

Among the standout performances were gold medal victories for Annabelle Marriott in the Girls 50m event, Heidi Tomkinson in the Girls 100m, Erin Yoxall in the Ladies 25m and Zac Beeston in the Men’s 25m.

Yoxall also secured a silver medal in the Ladies 50m race.

Bronze medals went to Ethan Carroll in the Men’s 50m and Carson Bruce in the Men’s 100m.

Seahorse also enjoyed success in the relay events.

Beth Davies, Annabelle Marriott, Heidi Tomkinson and Eva Yoxall claimed silver in the Junior Relay, while Josh Brough, Alex Moores, Tom Platt and David Troop took silver in the Senior Relay.

Oliver Daly, Jonathan Harrison and Matthew Roberts were also part of the silver medal-winning League Relay team.

The gala success comes during a landmark year for Seahorse Swimming Club, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Established in 1956 at Crewe’s Flag Lane swimming baths, the club now meets every Thursday evening at the Lifestyle Centre in Crewe.

Seahorse provides swimming opportunities for people with disabilities, helping members build water confidence, learn to swim and develop their abilities in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Run by volunteers, the club welcomes swimmers of all abilities and is looking to recruit new volunteers.

Anyone interested in supporting the club is invited to visit a Thursday evening session to find out more.
