dog found in parked car - nantwich police

Police in Nantwich today repeated warnings about leaving pets in vehicles after being called out to rescue a dog locked in a car in the town centre.

This dog was rescued from a vehicle parked on Nantwich Civic Centre car park at around 10.40am when outside temperatures were already around 30 degrees.

Officers say they have traced the owner and is being questioned under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Police praised members of the public for reporting the incident via a 999 call.

In a statement they said: “Despite repeated warnings and record temperatures, we are still seeing incidents involving dogs being left in vehicles.

“At 10:40 this morning, we received a 999 call reporting this gorgeous dog locked inside a vehicle in the Civic Hall car park.

“Thankfully, concerned members of the public in Nantwich acted quickly, and with the fantastic support of staff at Marks & Spencer, we were able to gain entry to the vehicle and rescue the dog.

“The dog was immediately moved into the shade, given food and water, and cared for whilst officers traced the owner.

“The owner has been identified and will be dealt with under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

“A parked car can become dangerously hot within minutes, even with windows left open.

“There is simply no excuse for leaving a dog inside a vehicle in these conditions.

“Thank you to everyone who stopped to help today. Your swift actions undoubtedly made a difference to this dog’s welfare.”
