Nantwich police chiefs say latest crime figures show they are winning the battle against burglars and thieves in the town.
There were 136 recorded offences of burglaries, thefts and robberies in Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit in 2011-12.
This was more than 22% below the set target of 176 offences, said Head of Nantwich NPU Insp Dave Smithers.
“So that’s 40 less potential victims of crime,” he said. “This has to be without doubt one of our best results.
“We also continued to work hard towards reducing crime and disorder in the night-time economy.
“Although we had significant challenges over the summer, since November we have improved, having regularly recorded better figures and being under target for nearly all these months.”
He said a key element has been regular operations, including the use of passive drugs dogs.
“This coupled with the successful Jazz festival where there were only a handful of arrests, leads me to believe we are continuing to address the issues within the town economy,” Insp Smithers added.
“Our implementation of Operation Arc Angel later in 2012 will only enhance our performance and work towards making Nantwich a safer place for the public throughout 2012 and beyond.”
The latest figures are part of overall Cheshire statistics released under the British Crime Survey, which show an overall decrease in crime of five per cent in Cheshire East region.
Chief Supt Mick Garrihy said: “We have dedicated teams of officers and staff who are successfully identifying those prolific offenders who are responsible for committing burglary offences in our area and bringing them to justice.
“Reducing acquisitive crime remains one of our main priorities and although the figures are encouraging, we are not complacent and will continue to build on our success to protect the residents, businesses and visitors of East Cheshire.”
