Nantwich’s Brine Leas High School was evacuated today after an experiment in a science lab went wrong.
Fumes were released during the chemistry class at Brine Leas on Audlem Road, prompting teachers to take swift action.
Fire crews, police and paramedics were all called to the scene at around 11.15am today (May 18).
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent their hazardous materials unit as well as appliances from Nantwich and Crewe.
A fire spokesman said: “The incident, which is believed to have been caused by fumes from a science experiment, took place in the chemistry lab.
“Pupils were evacuated while firefighters wearing specialist equipment dealt with the incident.
“A number of people were checked over at the scene for the effects of inhaling a chemical however no one required further treatment.”
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “The school was evacuated because a science experiement went wrong.
“Fire and ambulance were sent there as a precaution but we have no reports of injuries or casualties.”
Yes, we had stuff like this when I was at school in the 1950s – we just opened the windows to get rid of the fumes and got on with the rest of the lesson.
It all happened in the preparation area where there were no students. As a precaution we evacuated the school
