Nantwich Town striker Michael Lennon revealed it “saddened” him to leave the Weaver Stadium after four years.

The marksman, who has been a firm favourite with Dabbers’ fans, has signed for Hednesford Town.

Speaking to Nantwichnews, Lennon said there was “no real offer made to me” by Nantwich and felt that with new blood coming in the time was right to move.

“I would like to say a huge thank you and goodbye to the club and fans as I have thoroughly enjoyed my four years there and really do appreciate all the support I have received.

“It saddens me to leave but the club felt it time to bring in new blood and no real offer was made to keep me.

“I have loved being a player for Nantwich and I take with me some fantastic memories. I genuinely wish the players, board, staff and more importantly the fans, all the best for the future.

“The four years at the club have given me some of the best, and worst, moments in my career. The first season with such a manager like Steve Davis and the push for promotion will always be a lasting memory and of course finishing with over 100 goals for a club I love is a nice memento to take.

“I’m proud to have been a Dabber.”

A club spokesman said: “Michael Lennon has signed for Hednesford Town and whilst the club would have liked Michael to stay and help to build on the successes of last season, after carefully considering his options, he felt that the time was now right to move on and embark on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

“Lenny has made an immense contribution to Nantwich Town and his goal scoring achievements will live long in the memory of our supporters and everyone connected with the club.

“We would like to place on record our appreciation and thanks and wish him all the best for his new adventure and future in the game.”
