Specialist Reaseheath College in Nantwich has notched up a record year of student enrolments and achievements.
Around 1,120 graduating FE students have achieved industry recognised qualifications and skills.
Principal Meredydd David said 93% of Reaseheath’s students progress into employment or onto higher level courses.
Mr David also outlined Reaseheath’s investment in technical and educational facilities, which this year saw the opening of over £3m of new build.
A further £7m is planned for halls of residence and sporting facilities, including a fitness centre and floodlit pitch.
Students and staff have also raised over £13,000 during the year for charities including The Oliver King Foundation and the North West Air Ambulance.
Student prizes and certificates were presented by guest speakers Christine Gaskell MBE, a board member at Bentley Motors, Crewe, and by Dame Ruth Silver DBE, Chair of the Board, Learning and Skills Improvement Service.
Five outstanding students were selected from a total of over 8,000 to receive special awards.
Doug Powley, a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Adventure Sports student, was chosen as the student making the best contribution to college life for his active support of fund raising activities and for being a confidante and role model to new students.
Eliza Waldron, studying Wildlife Conservation and Ecology, was selected for making the best all round contribution to the college.
Elected HE student representative on Reaseheath’s Board of Governors, she has been a key charity fundraiser and helped to launch the new college Ju-Jitsu Club.
Christopher Smith, a Diploma Adventure Sports student, was singled out for personal qualities as he regularly gives his free time to show visitors round campus and has worked closely with the Student Services team to ensure students have an enjoyable time.
Sportsman Stuart Plant was recognised for contributing most to Reaseheath’s sporting activities, in particular the football teams.
He has played 100 competitive games including 12 on tours abroad and has also refereed for the college. A Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) student, he has also played for Crewe Alex Academy.
Will Astley, studying Agriculture with Dairy Herd Management, was awarded the Beacon Trophy celebrating excellence for coming runner-up in the UK Dairy Student of the Year – a national competition to identify talented and ambitious students.
