The community came together for the third annual Theodore William Gill Cup charity football match at Nantwich Town’s Swansway Stadium, writes Jonathan White.
The event was organised by parents Greg Gill and Charlotte Wilson in memory of their baby son Theo who was born sleeping in April 2023.
Before kick-off, players, mascots, and spectators joined in a heartfelt minute’s applause, followed by the release of blue balloons into the sky.
Each player wore a specially printed shirt bearing “TWG FC in memory 26/04/2023” on the front and “THEO” on the back.
The match saw Greg Gill captain the Red team and Kyle Brogan lead the Blues, with the Blue team narrowly edging out a 5-4 victory.
The game was officiated by Jem Cornes.
The event was a family affair and also included a cake stall, face painting, a bouncy castle, and refreshments from the KR Fan Zone outdoor bar.

A total £3,089.13 was raised with all proceeds going to the Lost Little Ones Meadow Suite Fund.
The fund supports the Meadow Suite at Leighton Hospital – a dedicated space on the labour ward offering grieving parents a peaceful, private environment to spend time with their baby.
The suite, which opened in September 2023, includes a comfortable non-clinical room and an adjacent outdoor area, giving families space and dignity during the most difficult moments.
Organiser Charlotte said: “We want to thank everybody who has supported our event not only this year, but the last two years prior.
“The amount of generosity in attendance, donations and the raffle prizes from the community has been overwhelming.
“We hope that our fundraising can help other bereaved parents in need just as it would have us.
“Thank you to all involved for keeping the memory of our little boy, Theo, for a much-needed cause.”
