Fire crews battled an out of control bonfire today at a property in Tarporley.

The fire broke out in a silage pit at a property on Heaths Lane are around 2.15pm today (June 23).

It quickly spread to nearby pile of tyres and trees.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said two fire engines from Winsford and Northwich, and one fire engine and the aerial ladder platform from Chester attended the scene.

They added: “Firefighters were called to an out-of-control bonfire in a silage pit in Tarporley.

“The fire quickly spread to nearby trees and tyres, becoming approximately 40 metres by 20 metres in size.

“Firefighters used one hose reel jet to begin tackling the blaze and dampen down the area.

“Police were also in attendance and closed the road for public safety due to a tree hanging dangerously.
