Nantwich racing driver Tom Greenwood impressed once more in round 5 of the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Clubman Championship at Oulton Park.

Greenwood, a former student of Brine Leas School, is competing in his second season in the Championship and is also a mechanic for his team, NHA Motorsport.

And at his home Cheshire circuit in temperatures soaring into the 30s, Greenwood again showed his potential.

He spent time with a coach at Oulton Park before the race in a bid to shave valuable tenths of seconds off his lap times and achieved a personal best by three seconds.

In qualifying, Greenwood achieved a career-best eighth on one of the most challenging tracks.

In race one, after a steady start, Greenwood was in 10th position before a safety car neutralised proceedings.

However, as the clock struck 5.30 and he lined up 10th on the grid, Greenwood began to motor through the field with some very clean overtakes.

These included a notable round-the-outside pass for 8th in the closing stages, a move that didn’t go unnoticed by fellow drivers in the paddock.

Greenwood crossed the line in 7th place, four seconds behind his teammate, and rounded off the successful weekend with another career best finish of 7th overall.

He stays in 9th position overall in the Championship out of 45 drivers, an impressive feat in just his second year of racing.

His next race will be at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire in August.
