BIRD BOX WORKSHOP - Nantwich

Twenty-five lucky families in Nantwich will get the chance to build a new home for a bird or bat family this week.

The one-off Bird/Bat Box making session takes place this Thursday July 31 between 1:30-3:30pm at St Mary’s Parish Rooms, Nantwich.

It has been designed by the eco group at St Mary’s to help nature thrive in Nantwich.

The session has been designed to make it safe and easy for children and their parents to make the wildlife homes – with pre-designed kits assembled before-hand.

All the families have to do is put the kits together with volunteers on hand to help.

Eco-group member Helen Shorrock said: “There’s nothing better than giving nature a helping hand – especially in your own garden.

“Bird boxes are a brilliant way to get your kids interested in the natural world, from watching the parents building their nest through to the chicks taking their first flight.

“Join us and let’s help nature thrive together.

“Thanks to Potters Timber Yard for helping us with the wood and Nantwich Town Council for helping us with the financial costs.”

Sustainable Nantwich green spaces campaigner Jeremy Herbert said the initiative was a brilliant way of engaging the next generation in the environment.

He said: “Churches play an important role in our communities, setting an example of how we can live together in harmony with the natural world.

“St Mary’s are looking at how they can save energy, reduce waste and protect wildlife. It’s great to have faith in nature.”

Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s Andy Stubbs also praised the Eco-Group for their energy and commitment.

He added: “It’s brilliant to see such energy and enthusiasm for nature being passed on to the next generation. Biodiversity underpins our health and well-being.

“All good things around us actually come from nature and we ignore the natural world at our peril.”
