Barony Lodge care home veterans award

Staff and residents at a Sanctuary Care home in Nantwich are celebrating becoming the 200th care home to achieve Veteran Friendly status.

Barony Lodge has been awarded Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) status for supporting the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community.

Staff, who currently care for three veterans, established close links with local armed forces community groups, creating important bonds and connections.

They ensure external healthcare professionals who see their residents are aware of the status, placing poppies outside bedroom doors to remind visitors.

Care home manager Jo Cookson said: “We’re incredibly proud to have achieved Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation, and to be the 200th home to do so is truly an honour for all of us here at Barony Lodge.

“Our VFF status is testament to our commitment to recognising and supporting those who have served.

“We are dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents in every way we can, and this accreditation highlights how we are in an even better position to provide the truly person-centred care and understanding our veterans deserve.”

Rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, Barony Lodge provides residential, dementia, and respite care, including pre-bookable respite care stays.

It is the eighth Sanctuary Care home to achieve VFF status, with more to follow.

The VFF is a collaboration between Armed Forces charities Royal Star & Garter and Royal British Legion and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

Kathryn Glass, VFF Project Lead at Royal Star & Garter, said: “We’re delighted that Sanctuary Care’s Barony Lodge Residential Care Home has achieved VFF status.

“This is a great commitment to their continuous improvement in the delivery of person-centred care for veteran residents and their partners.”
