Nantwich Food Festival 2025 was opened today in fine style as thousands of people flocked to the town.

The three-day event – which is expected to attract 40,000 visitors in total – opened at around midday today (August 29).

Stands in the town square, on Love Lane car park and on Bowling Green car park were bustling all day as visitors enjoyed a range of freshly cooked food, drinks and live music.

The festival was officially launched in the Reaseheath College marquee on Love Lane at around 5pm today.

Dignitaries, festival directors, volunteers and other invited guests attended the launch.

These included the High Sheriff of Cheshire Joelle Warren and husband Andrew, Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire Sarah Callander Beckett, Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Mary Slinn, Mayor of Cheshire East Cllr David Edwardes, Crewe and Nantwich MP Connor Naismith, and various Nantwich and Cheshire East councillors.

Chairman of the Nantwich Food Festival Committee Christine Farrall said: “What a wonderful thing I am involved in!

“My team is a family and we work together, because we all love Nantwich and we want to support it and make it even better.

“We don’t want to let the town fall by the wayside like other towns have.

“We have so many other events which make the town such a success.

“We had a set back when Cheshire East Council told us earlier in the year we were not able to have the car parks for free any more during the festival.

“We wondered whether this year would be the last one for us. But we would like to thank all the sponsors and Nantwich Town Council for all the support they have given us.

“And of course all the amazing volunteers, I’m so privileged to be involved with them.”

Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Mary Slinn then officially declared the 2025 Food Festival officially open.

She said: “I’m honoured and privileged to be standing here at the start of this festival.

“When the event was on Mill Island it would attract 20,000 visitors. This increased to around 30,000 when moved to the town centre.

“Numbers have been increasing every year and now it brings in around 40,000 visitors.

“People say certain things were better in the ‘good old days’.

“But that’s not the case for the food festival, which gets bigger and better every year. And it’s important that it remains a family friendly festival.

“There is something for everyone here, and a big thank you to everyone involved in putting this on.”
