Members of South Cheshire’s Seahorse Swimming Club made a big splash at the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy Regional Gala, writes Jonathan White.

The event, hosted by Aquadis Swimming Club, saw Seahorse SC put in outstanding performances to secure second place overall, just behind the hosts.

Manchester’s Sailfin Swimming Club finished third.

More than 45 swimmers with physical and learning disabilities took part, including 15 talented competitors from Seahorse SC.

There were Seahorse gold medals for Oliver Daly, Jonathan Harrison and Matthew Roberts in the league relay race, and to Eva Yoxall, Heidi Tomkinson, Zac Beeston, Neil Jones and Carson Bruce for their individual races.

Silver medals were scooped up by Bethany Davies, Annabelle Marriott, Heidi Tomkinson and Eva Yoxall in the junior relay race, and by Annabelle Marriott and Erin Yoxall in their individual events.

The senior relay team of Josh Brough, Ethan Carroll, Alex Moores and David Troop also took silver, while Erin Yoxall added a bronze in the 50m women’s race.

The club’s gold medal winners will represent the North West region at the Halliwick National Gala at Rhondda Sports Centre, South Wales on October 25.

Gareth Roberts, Seahorse’s secretary, said: “Our swimmers were really proud to be representing their club at the regional gala having prepared hard throughout the summer months.

“They all gave 100% effort and it was pleasing to see so many qualify for the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy national finals next month.”

Seahorse SC, established in 1956, meets every Thursday from 6.30–7.30pm at Crewe Lifestyle Centre.

The club aims to help people with disabilities gain water confidence, learn to swim, and develop their skills in a friendly, supportive environment.
