A Nantwich nursery is looking to expand so it can provide extra places following the government’s increase in funding for childcare, writes Belinda Ryan.
Sunflowers at St Anne’s Day Nursery on Wellington Road, overseen by the governing body of St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, has applied for permission for a modular building to provide extra capacity.
A planning statement submitted by Dane Architecture Ltd to Cheshire East Council, states: “Cheshire East Council are currently working with local nurseries to create more space.
“This proposal is to add a single storey modular building with a link to extend the existing facility.
“The new building would provide additional nursery places within the area.
“The forthcoming increase in government funding from September 2025 is expected to generate significant demand for childcare, both from new families and from existing parents requiring extended sessions.
“The expansion will therefore help meet this local need and ensure sufficient early years provision within the community.”
The planning document says the existing access, parking and outdoor facilities are not affected by the proposal and will remain.
It adds: “The proposal would be in keeping with the scale and character of the existing buildings and the surrounding area.
“The proposal will not have an adverse impact on the amenities of the neighbouring properties, having particular regard to overlooking, over-dominance, or loss of light.”
The application, number 25/3461/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council’s website.

I hope they build a extra car park as well as my neighbours and I are sick to death with cars blocking our drives parking on pavements and at the edge of road junctions dropping the little ones off and of course picking them up again !!
Delamere Road residents….,.
Good job it’s not the school where the extra children are going to isn’t it?
If you read the article it’s the nursery, where those picking up and dropping off can go though the gate.
Got to love an ill informed comment.
The parking problems and general stopping anywhere even on the main road is bad enough, awaiting an accident for sure. I am not sure extra children is what this school needs.
