First-half - first goal - Joe Robbins celebrates his penalty with teammates (1)

Nantwich Town earned an important league win with a 3-0 victory over Chasetown at Swansway Stadium last night (October 15th).

The Dabbers took an early lead when they were awarded their first penalty kick of the season in the sixth minute.

Byron Harrison raced through on goal and was cleaned out by the visitors’ keeper.

Joe Robbins stepped up and fired the penalty down the middle to make it 1-0.

Chasetown keeper Pond came to their rescue a couple more times in the first half.

But he was unable to prevent Nantwich doubling their lead on the stroke of half-time.

Perry Bircumshaw was left unmarked and he ghosted in to fire home to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

Nantwich continued to dominate possession after the break and any hopes of a Chasetown comeback were ended in the 53rd minute.

Alex Panter reacted quickest to swivel in the box and crash his shot off the crossbar and over the line to seal the points for the Dabbers.

Ben Garratt had a quiet game in the Nantwich net, thanks to a strong defensive display by Jon Moran’s team.

And Nantwich saw out the game comfortably to secure the win against a team in the top five of the Northern Premier League West.

Manager Moran said afterwards: “I’m delighted for the lads to bounce back from the Atherton defeat where we conceded two poor goals that day.

“But we didn’t make any mistakes today. If you don’t make mistakes at this level then you win games.

“That was the difference, and the goals we scored we worked really well.”
