South Cheshire swimmers were in action when they competed in the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy National Championships at Rhondda Sports Centre, writes Jonathan White.

Ten members of Seahorse Swimming Club, which caters for people with disabilities, were representing the North West region against teams from London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Wales.

Seahorse’s Eva Yoxall found success by winning a gold medal in the girl’s 25-metre race and Beth Davies, who swam in the junior relay team, also came away with a gold medal.

Annabelle Marriott won a silver medal in the girl’s 50-metre race, and Heidi Tomkinson also won a silver medal in the girl’s 100-metre race.

Neil Jones won a bronze medal in the men’s 50-metre race.

Other Seahorse SC swimmers who qualified for the event were Zac Beeston, Carson Bruce, Jonathan Harrison, Oliver Daly and Matthew Roberts.

The trophies and medals were presented at the venue’s sports hall by Sheryl Evans, the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Halliwick AST officials, which included Chairman, William Wyatt MBE.

Seahorse Secretary Gareth Roberts said: “The swimmers gave their very best in the races and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of competing at national level.

“Everyone who represented the North West region did their clubs proud and it was pleasing to see two Seahorse SC swimmers come home with silverware.

“A slide-show of photos from previous galas was shown before the presentation and it was a lovely surprise that the slide-show was accompanied by the dance anthem ‘Sunchyme’ song, which was produced by the late Crewe musician, Paul Spencer (Dario G).”
