Peppa - canine crime fighter Cheshire Police

Sprocker Spaniel Peppa is set to start her training to become Cheshire Police’s newest canine crime-fighter.

Police dogs regularly help their human colleagues and Peppa is the latest recruit to be put through her paces.

Dogs help by sniffing out criminals who have fled the scene, detect concealed drugs and weapons, and even find electronic equipment of minute size hidden from view.

The 12-week-old Sprocker Spaniel has been taken on by the force after she was donated by Lisa Haughton, from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.

Lisa said: “Peppa is a Sprocker Spaniel bred from my own home-bred working Sprocker, Ruby.

“Her father is Merlin, a working cocker spaniel from the renowned ‘Spanbella Gundogs’ based in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

“She is very special to us.”

Following her arrival, she is now living with her new handler from the Constabulary’s Dog Section full time ahead of her rigorous Police Dog training.

While her role within the force’s Dog Unit is to be decided, the team will track her progresses and provided more ‘pup-dates’ soon.
