police officer on patrol in nantwich town centre

Nantwich Police have issued a warning to householders amid a series of break ins and thefts from vehicles believed to be carried out by the same gang.

Sgt Matt Stonier said there has been a rise in the number of shed break ins, burglaries and other similar offences at properties and facilities like bowling greens.

Incidents include the theft of a tent box off the top of a parked vehicle, as well as equipment from sheds and garages.

Sgt Stonier told Nantwich Town councillors: “We are pretty confident it is the same people who are responsible for this spate of incidents.

“We believe they are using some sort of white van, but we are struggling to nail down the registration and the individuals involved.

“We are sure that at some point they will let their guard down.

“But we would urge residents to make sure their properties and vehicles are locked and secured, including any expensive items on the vehicles.

“We want to make people aware and we would hope to make a breakthrough.”

Cllr Caroline Kirkham said there had been a number of reports of people trying to break into vehicles along Marsh Lane in recent nights.

She added: “It seems to be someone on a pushbike, it’s been reported to police, but we wondered if we can have any increased visibility along there late at night and in the early hours.”

Sgt Stonier added: “There will be increased presence in those locations as we know of one incident along Wyche Avenue in particular.”
