St Mary’s Church in Nantwich has received a £1,500 donation towards its restoration works.
The contribution to The Nantwich Parish Church Preservation Appeal Trust will support its efforts to repair and restore the church.
The Trust had raised enough funds to carry out phase one of the restoration of the north and east sides of the church, which is now nearing completion.
The charity is seeking funds for phase two, which the £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes has supported.
Paul Ramsey, chairman of The Nantwich Parish Church Preservation Appeal Trust, said: “Funds in the past have been from several grants and legacies, which have enabled us to restore the south and west sides.
“We are now working on the north and east sides, and the donation from David Wilson Homes will be used to fund the stonework, which is specified as being at risk and needs to be carried out by skilled stonemasons.
“Our charity’s goal is to raise funds to bring about the full restoration of the church so that it is fit for purpose as a building for a wide range of activities, with the need for only day-to-day maintenance.”
The Nantwich Parish Church Preservation Appeal Trust was set up in 1978 to raise funds for the restoration and repair of the fabric of St Mary’s Church in Nantwich.
Now awaiting larger renovation projects, the church has been put on the At Risk Register by Historic England until the work is complete.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities across the UK.
Claire Jarvis, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “St Mary’s Church is an important community hub in Nantwich for many reasons, and we are pleased to support the renovation works being undertaken by The Nantwich Parish Church Preservation Appeal Trust.
“We hope our contribution helps the charity on its way to raising the funds required to complete the essential works to restore the church to its pristine condition.”
St Mary’s has been the parish church in Nantwich since the 14th Century and is open every day of the week for visitors and for private prayer, while offering worship on Sundays.
It is also the venue for concerts, civic services and special occasions, such as the annual Holly Holy Day in January to commemorate the Battle of Nantwich in 1644.
