Nantwich Museum is to host a Civil War exhibition as part of the Holly Holy Day Battle of Nantwich celebrations.
In 1643, the English Civil War arrived in Nantwich and by Christmas the town was under siege from the Royalist army.
The town was only relieved following the Battle of Nantwich on January 25th 1644.
To mark the Battle of Nantwich, the museum will run a Civil War exhibition from January 20th.
Three Battle of Nantwich talks with different themes will also take place at Nantwich Museum in January.
The talks all start at 7pm.
Thursday January 15th – ‘Nantwich Surrounded 1643-1647 – A walled garrison town’ by Brian Cole.
Thursday January 22nd – ‘Communication and Propaganda in the English Civil War’ by Helen Cooke.
Thursday January 29th – ‘Barthomley Massacre or Propaganda’ by Keith Lawrence.
There will also be three Civil War Walking Tours at the museum.
These will take place on Saturday January 17th at 11am and Saturday January 24th at both 9.45am and 11.30am. The tours all last approximately 1.5 hours.
Tickets for both the civil war talks and walks are £6.00 (Museum Members £5.00, children free).
Both the talks and walks can be booked online or in the museum.
A visit to the museum shop will provide an opportunity to purchase one of the informative booklets that relate to the Civil War.
The museum is open from 10am-4pm (Tuesday – Saturday). Entry to the museum and events is free unless otherwise indicated.
