The citation for the award reads: Music Director, Nantwich Choral Society. For Services to Music.

A proud John, who lives just over the county border in Shropshire, said: “I am greatly honoured to receive this award.

“Music has been my lifetime’s interest and it has been an enormous privilege and pleasure to have been Music Director of Nantwich Choral Society since 2005 and to have conducted so many of their memorably great performances.

“I am so grateful to my musical friends and colleagues for their support and look forward to working with them all in the time to come.”

Nantwich Choral Society is a flourishing choir with more than 90 members of various ages.

Most of the choir’s repertoire includes main stream choral works by composers such as Bach, Handel, Haydn, Elgar and others, as well as some contemporary works.

They perform around four concerts a year including a Singing Day in the Autumn and Come and Sing in January or February.

They are open to non-members and attract singers from all over the country.

They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at the Methodist Church on Hospital Street, Nantwich starting at 7.30pm and last for about two hours.
