Ken Lawton - MBE

A department for work and pensions worker from Nantwich has been recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours.

Ken Lawton has been awarded an MBE for his work advocating for vulnerable individuals.

Ken has been hailed for his work helping vulnerable individuals navigate disability benefits and grants.

He is a National Disability Advocacy Manager and focuses on providing advice and raising awareness about disability benefits and grants, guiding individuals throughout the process.

Since working at DWP for 13 years, Ken has supported some of the most vulnerable individuals and families in society. His work ensures complex cases are supported from start to finish.

He is motivated by seeing how lives can be transformed through simple advice and signposting to the right support.

He is passionate about making the benefits and grants process easier and more compassionate for those who need it.

Ken said: ”To be recognised for something I’m so passionate about and committed to, and that’s part of my everyday role, is both amazing and deeply humbling.

“I had to read it several times before it really sank in.”

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said: ”It’s fantastic to see our brilliant DWP staff recognised in the New Year Honours List, which celebrates extraordinary contributions to their communities and public service.

“I would like to thank and congratulate all of our DWP colleagues who have been awarded.”

Ken is among 10 staff members across the Department for Work and Pensions who have been named this year in the King’s New Year Honour lists, which recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK.
