A handbag? Nantwich Players have brought Oscar Wilde’s comedy, The Importance of being Earnest to the stage this week.
A classic farce, full of satire, mistaken identities, chaotic romance and of course, cucumber sandwiches.
Directed by Jery Park, this production shows that the pursuit of love, (and the perfect name), is as delightful and funny as ever.
The cast delivered a strong performance. Algernon and Jack were played by William Hickey and Richard Senior, who worked brilliantly together, their energy on stage was perfect as the lifelong friends who seem to delight in continually annoying one another.
Maximillian Clay played Lady Bracknell, with razor sharp wit whose interrogation of Jack was both hilarious and somewhat absurd.
For me, a highlight of the show came from the performances by Laura Monkhouse as Gwendolen and Elle Gardiner who played Cecily.
The tea party scene was executed brilliantly, the balance of politeness against hostility all whilst serving tea and cake was hilarious.
A light hearted show full of wit and plenty of laughter. The Importance of Being Earnest is running at The Players Theatre, Love Lane until 21st February.
