Alfie Simcox fundraising bike ride

Two young Shavington friends are embarking on a 170-mile cycling challenge in aid of a children’s cancer charity.

Alfie Simcox has already raised thousands of pounds in the past with his photos of trucks and selling calendars he has created with them.

Now the 13-year-old has recruited his friend Kaiden, aged 12, to combine their passion for Crewe Alexandra FC with a desire to make a difference to others in need.

They will be setting off on a 170-mile cycling challenge from Cambridge United FC to Crewe Alexandra’s ground, aiming to arrive just in time for the end-of-season home match between the teams at Gresty Road on May 2nd.

Money raised will be donated to The Joshua Tree – a Cheshire -based children’s cancer charity operating throughout the North West and North Wales.

Kaiden and his family have experienced first-hand the support offered by The Joshua Tree, having attended the charity while his younger sister Faye was undergoing treatment.

The boys will be accompanied by their dads Chris and Mike and family friend Sam on the mammoth cycling challenge.

They aim to set off at 8.30am on Thursday April 30th on a 170-mile cycle ride from Cambridge United’s ground, arriving in time for kick-off at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday May 2nd.

Alfie’s mum Steph said: “Driven by their passion for Crewe Alexandra and a desire to help others, they have organised this challenge to raise funds for The Joshua Tree.

“The Joshua Tree is dedicated to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of families affected by childhood cancers, offering assistance not only to the diagnosed child but also to siblings, parents, and grandparents to ensure no one faces the journey alone.

“Mike and Kaiden have received invaluable support from The Joshua Tree during Kaiden’s younger sister’s battle with cancer, and now they feel it is the right time to give back.”

They have already raised more than £1,600 in advance of the ride, via their Justgiving page.
