A major fire broke out at a recycling centre in Wardle, Nantwich, earlier today (April 13)

Fire appliances from Nantwich, Crewe and Chester were called out at around 5am to the fire on the Green Lane industrial estate on Green Lane.

The blaze involved a large pile of wood chippings that were well alight when crews arrived on scene.

A Cheshire Fire spokesperson said: “Firefighters created a fire break to prevent any potential fire spread.

“Four hose reel jets were used to get the fire under control, and machinery onsite was used to remove and spread the wood chippings.

“A thermal imaging camera was then used to check for hotspots throughout before leaving the scene. This is believed to have been caused by a battery.”
