
Two men have been arrested after an explosive device was found at a house in Nantwich, sparking a street evacuation.
The incident happened on Friday night and Nantwich News inquired with Cheshire Police at the time but had no response.
Now they have confirmed two men, aged 39 and 47, have been arrested after an extensive search of a house on Cronkinson Oak in Nantwich.
Officers discovered what was believed to be a small improvised explosive device.
Two men were originally arrested on Friday at around 3am after reports of dangerous driving. The house search was carried out while the men were in custody.
When the device was found, police immediately evacuated families from other properties in the surrounding streets.
One witness told Nantwich News: “They were telling families to leave, but police were not saying what was happening.
“There was a major police presence.”
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said today: “At around 3am today, Friday 8 May, two men, aged 39 and 47, were arrested following reports of dangerous driving near to Edleston Road, Crewe.
“While the men remain in custody, officers conducted a search of an address on Cronkinson Oak, Nantwich. During the search, officers discovered what was believed to be a small improvised explosive device.
“The device has since been assessed by EOD and deemed safe.
“As a result of the incident, a number of properties in the local area were evacuated and a police cordon was put in place as a precautionary measure.”
