danny harrison peaks challenge

A Nantwich man who battled back from a life-threatening heart condition as a child has set himself a crazy four-day challenge to raise funds for charity.

Danny Harrison, 27, will be trying to hike the National 3 Peaks, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and the Welsh 3 Peaks back to back in just four days!

Danny has set himself the challenge after surviving a rare heart condition as a teenager which saw him undergo life-saving surgery.

Now he wants to raise awareness and funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity which campaigns for more screening and help to diagnose young people with similar conditions.

Danny will set off on June 2nd and will aim to climb nine UK mountains, hike more than 80 miles, and drive more than 1,000 miles between locations.

He told Nantwich News: “I am taking on this challenge in order to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) a charity that means a great deal to me after undergoing heart surgery myself as a teenager.

“I was very lucky to capture my heart condition early, however many are not so lucky.

“Unfortunately I have witnessed several young men and women pass away for too soon from heart conditions they had no idea they were carrying.

“Currently 12 UK citizens aged 14-35 die each week from undiagnosed heart conditions in the UK. CRY is on a mission to stop this.

“All the money I raise will go towards funding the vital heart screenings that are capable of identifying these heart conditions before they turn fatal, likely saving lives.”

Danny will start with the National 3 Peaks – Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.

He will then travel with his support team to Yorkshire where he will tackle the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

This is a 26-mile non-stop hike across the Yorkshire Dales, which will take around 12 hours and will see him climb Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The following day we will then tackle the Welsh 3 Peaks, starting with Pen-y-fan, onto Cadair Idris, and finally finishing on Mount Snowdon, where he will have started four days earlier.
