National treasure and “Queen of Pantomime” Su Pollard is heading to Crewe Lyceum this Christmas to star in the family pantomime Sleeping Beauty.
Celebrating 52 years in showbusiness this year, Su joins previously announced panto favourites Malcolm Lord and Ste Johnston.
Su, best known for her iconic role as Peggy Ollerenshaw in the classic sitcom Hi-de-Hi!, is one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers.
She has more than 40 pantomimes and many other stage credits to her name including West End hits Annie and Me and My Girl.
Her television credits include You Rang, M’Lord?, Oh, Doctor Beeching!, Benidorm and Celebrity MasterChef.
Su is also celebrating her remarkable career with the upcoming release of her memoir, Su Pollard: Fully Charged due out this August.
She said: “I’ve been in 46 pantos as Principal Boy, Good Fairy, Bad Fairy, Wicked Queen and Dame… you name it I’ve been it!
“My good friends Cannon and Ball told me they had terrific panto seasons over the years and always loved their times there.
“It is a beautiful theatre with a terrific auditorium with splendid acoustics and a fabulous ceiling so I’m really excited!
“My fairy might have a slightly different look but I hope I bring to the audience everything the Good Fairy should.
“Lots of traditional storytelling especially for the children some who may not have been to the theatre before, let alone a panto, and of course loads of magic!
“There’ll be plenty of fun and plenty of opportunity to join in. And I very much hope to vanquish the baddie!”
Crewe Lyceum Theatre Director Graham McKnight said: “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming the legendary Su Pollard to the Lyceum Theatre this December.
“Su is a true icon of British entertainment and brings the perfect mix of comedy, warmth, mischief and larger-than-life sparkle that makes her the most wonderful addition to this year’s spectacular show.
“With Su joining the unstoppable Malcolm & Ste on stage, audiences can expect huge laughs, fabulous fun and plenty of magical moments along the way.
“We know our audiences are going to fall in love with her all over again as she lights up the Lyceum stage this Christmas.”
Sleeping Beauty, produced by award-winning Imagine Theatre, promises a laugh-out-loud comic, a fabulously outrageous dame, a deliciously wicked villain, show stopping musical numbers and plenty of slapstick fun for audiences of all ages.
