reaseheath bypass

The final works to get the new A51 Reaseheath Bypass in Nantwich open look set to take place in July.

Cheshire East Council highways have announced that the developer-led works are scheduled to start from Monday July 6th.

And once these works are complete, the council says the new road will open which is now scheduled for the end of the summer holidays.

It will bring an end to a four and a half year saga of a bypass which was originally supposed to open in February 2022 as part of the conditions for developers to build houses on Kingsbourne.

In a statement, the council said today: “Advance road signs will be in place from Monday to help road users prepare – the works are expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

“On completion, the new road will open and will serve as the main A51, replacing the section that provides access to Reaseheath Hall and Reaseheath College’s equestrian centre.

“We thank all road users and residents for their patience while these improvements take place.”

In December 2025, housing consortium developers and Cheshire East appeared to blame each other for the delay in opening the bypass.

They said the delays were caused as they were waiting for local authority approval for works and documentation completed.

But Cheshire East hit back, claiming it was at the developers end where the delays were being caused.

In a statement at the time, Cllr Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee, said: “All roads within the Kingsbourne estate, between Waterlode and the A51, remain the legal responsibility of the developer.

“As it stands, there are no highway agreements in place for the roads to be offered up for adoption.

“The council is still awaiting the necessary documentation from the developer before this process can move forward.”
