A researcher and trustee at Nantwich Museum has been honoured with a prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) prize.
Dr Helen Cooke has been named winner of the RSC’s Inspirational Member Awards, for dedication to the Chemical Information and Computer Applications (CICAG) committee and development of the Distillate newsletter.
Dr Cooke (pictured) said: “I feel honoured and delighted to have been awarded an Inspirational Member Award, and even more motivated to communicate the value of chemistry, its importance in society and to engage members of the public.”
Explaining her work, she added: “My focus is dedicated to activities and events which communicate chemistry to scientists and members of the public.
“For example, researching local history can provide unexpected openings.
“Opportunities have arisen through Nantwich Museum to analyse the fascinating inventory of a 17th century apothecary shop, explore Joseph Priestley’s time in Nantwich, and investigate the quality of the local river’s water.”
The Inspirational Member Awards is one of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Volunteer Recognition Prizes, given in celebration of RSC members who support and inspire others within the community.
Dr Helen Pain, CEO of the Royal Society of Chemistry, said: “Volunteers are vital to the work of the RSC.
“Whether it’s sitting on our boards and committees, running outreach events, or supporting other members of the community, they’re at the heart of everything we do.

“You join the ranks of a star-studded roster stretching back over 150 years, including several dozen who went on to win Nobel Prizes.
“Our winners are exceptional role models for our communities, and we’re so pleased to be celebrating such an extraordinary cohort this year.”
